Cedar and Skye Farm started out on the West Coast of the US as a collaboration between married couple, Courtie and Saúl. Courtie’s lifelong love of animals resulted in the purchase of our first farm - a 20 acre parcel in Helvetia, Oregon.
We populated our Oregon farm with a small flock of sheep, a large vegetable garden, bees, and other animals. We cared for our farm while working full time jobs. There was always something to do on the farm but our favorite activity was spending summer evenings bucking hay with our friends and neighbors. As two city kids, we had much to learn and spent the next few years studying husbandry and fiber-craft.
We are still learning as we go. When life and work led us to the East Coast, we sold our farm in Oregon and settled in Litchfield, Connecticut, on 19 acres - bringing all of our animals with us. In Connecticut, Courtie was lucky to meet several mentors. Our lovely neighbor Barbara helped kickstart and put shape to our business idea with her website creation, enthusiasm, and skill. She converted Courtie’s hand-drawn sheep sketches into logos.
Then, in 2024 Courtie met a talented designer, Katharine, through work in the apparel industry. Both loved the three-dimensional experience of needle-felting and formed and paired up to work on product. Katharine’s design background and incredible attention to detail breathes life into all of her designs.
